University of Kentucky sophomore Jeff Chakouian claimed fourth place in the discus throw at the Junior Pan-American Championships in Santa Fe, Argentina, on Saturday, Oct. 20, missing an opportunity for two medals by less than a foot.

Chakouian, who claimed the shot put title on Friday with a Junior Pan-Am record throw, heaved the discus 161-07.00 to finish just behind bronze medallist Gomes De Hendonca Gustavo of Brazil. Hurtado Hector of Venezuela took first place with a throw of 173-07.00.

A native of Seekonk, Mass., Chakouian owns the UK indoor and outdoor varsity and freshman shot put records, as well as the UK freshman discus record. He begins his sophomore season for Kentucky at the Wildcat Speed Meet on Friday, Dec. 7 at the Nutter Field House on the UK campus.
