The University of Kentucky men’s golf team slipped to fourth place in the final two rounds of the Gary Koch Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 16, but still managed to register its best finish of the season in the highly-competitive tournament.
Host and Southeastern Conference power Florida walked away with the title in impressive fashion. The Gators fired a course record in the second round and recorded 62 birdies for the two-day competition. UK attempted to keep pace with Florida by finishing the tournament second in birdies with 51, but the Gators proved to be too much.
Freshman John Holmes continued his stellar freshman campaign with a 3-under par 213 and finish in fifth place. Along with Holmes, senior Brad Coyne and junior Andy Dustman also landed their best finishes of the season.
The Invitational concluded the Cats fall season. The men’s golf team will resume play in the spring when they begin arguably one of the toughest schedules in the nation on Feb. 9 at the Gator Invitational.
