Junior John Monebrake became the second University of Kentucky men’s soccer player this season to be named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The Pickerington, Ohio, native led the Wildcats to a 3-1 win against MAC-foe Buffalo on Sunday, Oct. 14, with two goals in less than a minute, including the game-winner. With the victory, UK moved into a first-place tie with Akron atop the conference standings at 4-0-0.

“This a well-deserved honor,” Coach Ian Collins said. “He has found the net consistently this season and is playing very well. He just keeps getting better and better.”

The two-goal performance was Monebrake’s third of the year and second consecutive in MAC play. He also tallied two goals in a three and a half minute span for a 3-1 UK win at Bowling Green on Oct. 5 and two at home in a 4-0 victory over UNC Asheville on Sept. 9.

Monebrake, a transfer from Ohio State and a former Big Ten Freshman of the Year, has netted seven goals on the year and assisted on three others for a team-leading 17 points.
