The University of Kentucky men’s golf team led all competitors at the Gary Koch Invitational in Tampa, Fla., on Monday, Oct. 15. The Wildcats currently sit in first place with a first-round total of 289.
Senior Ryan Coyne, a Sidney, Ohio native, led UK with a 2-under par 70 to land in second place. John Holmes continued his impressive freshman campaign by firing an even-par 72 to place him in a tie for seventh. Other UK scores included Philip Schardein with a 73, Andy Dustman with a 74 and Mark Blakefield with a 78.
The Cats lead second-place Ohio State by the narrowest of margins, while perennial power and tournament host Florida sits in third with a 292.
The Gary Koch Invitational will conclude on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Old Memorial Golf Course.
