Lexington, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving teams will have their first scrimmage of the season on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the annual Blue & White intrasquad meet at 4:00 p.m. at UK’s Lancaster Aquatic Center.
The competition will feature all of the swimmers competing in three out of five possible strokes and three out of five distances. The events are the 50, 100, 150 and 200 butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and the 75 individual medley. The divers will take their turns on all three platforms – one-, three- and 10-meter. The diving competition will culminate in a handstand competition where the winner will be determined by the length of time.
“It’s an exciting meet in the sense that all of the races are more sprint than distance and the swimmers have to take on some strokes they don’t usually swim,” UK Coach Gary Conelly said. “For the coaches, it is a great insight into the competitive nature of each swimmer and their talent for the different strokes.”
The team will start the regular season in Gainesville, Fla., on Oct. 12 in the SEC East Extravaganza.
