CHICAGO – Caity Phillips and Hunter Spencer led the University of Kentucky cross country teams at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29. The men’s squad captured first place among all teams, while the women’s team finished seventh in the Division I field.
Spencer guided UK to its second-consecutive team victory with his second-place finish in the men’s 8,000 meters. His time of 25:03 was just ahead of teammate Thomas Morgan’s 25:06, which was good for third place. UK’s other three scorers all finished in the top 16: James Doaty in 12th place (25:49), Kevin Panke in 13th place (25:49) and Jack Morgan in 16th place (25:55).
For the women, Phillips led all Wildcats with a 5,000-meter time of 18:04 to finish fourth, while April Eaves’ time of 19:27 claimed the No. 31 spot to help the team effort.
Kentucky returns to action when they travel to Greenville, S.C., for the Furman Pre-NCAA Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
