Men's Soccer

In its third overtime match of the season, the University of Kentucky men’s soccer team surrendered a goal in the 104th minute for a 1-0 Louisville victory. The Cats fall to 4-3-1 on the season while the Cards improve to 2-3-1.

In a statistically even match, Kentucky was unable to find very many chances to score but were able to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard through regulation, as well. In the 95th minute, the Wildcats got one of their few chances when Chris McAlpine took the ball straight away and sent a shot just left of the goal from about 40 yards out. Two minutes later, Nathan Fleetwood had a direct free kick saved, while Monty Frazier had two point-blank shots saved by U of L goalkeeper Jeremy Morales early in the 104th minute.

Louisville quickly attacked, and Simon Bird got past the Kentucky defense, going one-on-one with UK keeper Brad Samelko. Bird’s shot was deflected by Samelko but slipped into the net at the 103:54 mark for the win.

On the night, the Cats took 11 shots to Louisville’s 13 and held a 6-5 corner-kick advantage.

UK returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 30 when they travel to Ohio to take on Cincinnati in the first game of a three-game road swing. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
