Antti Peltonen became the first University of Kentucky men’s soccer player this season to earn Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.
Peltonen, a junior from Kokkola, Finland, entered this past weekend with just one assist on the year but exited with three goals, including two game-winners, and another assist. His strong offensive efforts helped guide UK to a 3-1 win over Western Michigan and a 4-0 triumph over Northern Illinois. The wins moved the Cats into first place in the MAC at 2-0-0. His three goals tie him for first on the team while his eight points are second.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Antti,” Coach Ian Collins said. “He played extremely well over the weekend and is always a class player. He has a great professional future awaiting him.”
