The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team wrapped up action at the University of Tennessee St. Mary’s Health Care Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday, Sept. 23. The individual tournament proved to be a solid opener for the Cats season with several UK players landing second and third place finishes and three Wildcat doubles teams securing flight championships.
Juniors Sarah Witten and Leigh Bradwell, and freshman Danielle Petrisko all fell in the championship matches of their respective flights to earn runner-up honors, while seniors Carolina Mayorga and Lauren Rookledge, and juniors Amy Trefethen and Shannon Stafford won consolation matches to take third place.
The Cats will look to build on the weekend’s success as they prepare to travel to Los Angeles on Oct. 6-14, to compete in the All-American Tournament. The All-American will take place in the Riveria Club and will boast the attendance of the nation’s premier tennis programs.
