The University of Kentucky men’s golf team jumped three spots in the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championships in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday to finish in ninth place.

The Cats were led by two talented freshmen who made strong showings in their Wildcat debuts. Freshman John Holmes finished in eighth place after carding two rounds under 70 to finish at even par. Fellow freshman Mark Blakefield was able to put together a solid final round of 70 to move up to 32nd place.

Other UK scores were Philip Schardein with a 218, Ryan Coyne with a 225 and John Beckett with a 234. The Cats will be back in action on September 28, when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete in the Michigan Invitational.
