LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team held its annual Blue-White scrimmage on Saturday, August 25 at Memorial Coliseum. The White team won the contest, 2-1.

The scrimmage marked the first time the team had participated in the new rally-score format. This season all games are scored in a rally format with the first four games going to 30 points, while the fifth game will remain a 15-point tiebreaker.

The White team took the first contest by a score of 36-34. Leading the way was freshman middle blocker Katie Bright with nine kills. For the Blue team, senior April Barnhorst and junior Kristen Batt each tallied five kills.

In the second contest, the Blue team rebounded and took the 30-20 decision. Sophomore Sissy Canfield and freshman Sarah Spinner each tallied six kills in the win. The White team rallied to take the third game, 30-26, with Kristen Batt leading the way with a .409 hitting percentage.

“This was a chance for us to really get out and compete,” Coach Jona Braden said. “We wanted the team to get a chance to come out and fight for every point and treat the people on the other side of the net like a true opponent.”

“I am so pleased with everyone,” Braden continued. “Everyone stepped up when they need to and showed great adaptability. That is such a positive thing to see.”

The Cats open regular-season play on Friday, August 31, when they travel to Dallas, Texas, for the Southern Methodist Invitational. The Cats face host SMU at 7 p.m. on Friday before playing both Weber St. and Duke on Saturday.
