Pyatt Receives Hardship Year: University of Kentucky wide receiver Brad Pyatt has been granted a hardship exemption for the 2000 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2001 season.
Pyatt, who has suffered from foot injuries since high school, came to UK in 1999. He earned a starting spot as a true freshman and played well during the first half of the ’99 season before being slowed by foot problems. For the season, he caught 21 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
With the problems continuing, he played briefly in the first two games of the 2000 season and finally decided to leave the team. He underwent successful foot surgery in November. During the off-season, he asked to rejoin the team and was allowed to do so.
Pyatt went through spring practice and off-season conditioning. He has looked very good during fall practice and is contending for a starting role at the “Z” receiver position. Sandy Bell, UK Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, petitioned to declare 2000 as a hardship season for Pyatt, not counting against his eligibility.
“This is a prayer come true,” Pyatt said. “I got my foot taken care of (with the surgery) and it feels better than ever. I feel much more confident and comfortable out there.”
DeVaughn, Hardin Return to Practice: Senior center Nolan DeVaughn and junior defensive end Richard Hardin had their first practice of the 2001 season on Wednesday after recovering from injuries. DeVaughn has been suffering from an inflamed toe while Hardin has been recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery performed in July. DeVaughn is projected to be the Wildcats’ starting center and Hardin is competing for playing time as a reserve.
