DESTIN, Fla. — Representatives from eight of its schools have made theSoutheastern Conference 1990’s All-Decade Football Team firstteam and all 12institutions were represented on both the first- and second-teams,conference officials announced Tuesday. The voting was done by members ofthe media representing all nine SEC-area states and several members fromaround the country.

Former tight end James Whalen (1997-99) was the Wildcats’ only player to earn first-team recognition. First-team quarterback included a tie between Tennessee’s Peyton Manning and Florida’s Danny Wuerfful. The second-team quarterback was Alabama’s Jay Barker. Kentucky’s Tim Couch, who set seven NCAA record and 14 SEC records, did not make either list.

Tennessee had the most players on the first-team with seven while Floridahad the most players honored with 13, five on the first-team and eight onthe second-team. Alabama also had five players selected on the first teamwhile LSU and Auburn each had three players selected on the first-team.Former Alabama offensive tackle Chris Samuels received the most votes inthe balloting, being named on 24 of 25 ballots received.
