University of Kentucky women’s tennis junior Jill Buckley looked impressive on Tuesday as she won the Southeast sectional of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Summer Circuit in Greensboro, N.C.

The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native made her way through the tournament in impressive fashion, defeating North Carolina’s Kristen Konig, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals before eliminating Furman’s Megan Dunigan in the semifinals. Dunigan, also from Oak Ridge, fell to her former junior rival in three sets, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 1-0 (8).

In the final Buckley remained solid, defeating Amanda Field of Indiana, 6-1, 6-0. With the tournament victory, she earns herself a spot in the ITA Summer Circuit Championship, Aug. 11-15, in Bloomington, Ind.

“This is a very good situation for Jill,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “Her play in this tournament looks to be a good indicator of her play in the fall. We’re very happy for Jill.”
