Three University of Kentucky women’s tennis players are set to begin competition in the 2001 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships on Tuesday, May 22, at the Lincoln Tennis Center at Georgia State University in Stone Mountain, Ga.UK’s No. 1 singles player, Carolina Mayorga, the nation’s 40th-ranked player, is set to take on Arkansas’ Chin Bee Khoo in the opening round of singles action at 10:30 a.m. Khoo defeated Mayorga in the teams regular-season matchup before the foes split sets in a suspended match at the SEC Championships. Khoo is currently ranked 16th in the nation entering the championships.

Also competing for the Wildcats is the doubles tandem of senior Brooke Skeen and sophomore Lauren Rookledge. The duo will face No. 4-seed Whitney Laiho and Jessica Lehnhoff of Florida at 3:30 p.m. The Gator duo are ranked fourth in the nation.

Mayorga and her doubles partner, Sarah Witten are still first on the list of alternates waiting for a spot in the doubles championships. Should a duo be forced to pull out, Mayorga and Witten will compete.
