The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team completed day two on Tuesday, May 8 of their European tour of France and Switzerland.
The Wildcats arrived in Nice, France on Monday, May 7 at 10 a.m. after a seven-hour flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy airport. The team had little time to rest as a walking tour was scheduled along the Mediterranean Sea. The Cats visited various sites along the way such as the famous Ne Gresco Hotel, the Opera House and the French Market. The team then ascended one of the tallest peaks in Nice to look out over the entire city for a few photo opportunities. After a quick lunch in the French Market, the team headed back to the Hotel Elysee Palace for the night.
On Tuesday, May 8 the Cats’ day began at 9:30 a.m., when they traveled by bus to picturesque Monaco, located 12 kilometers west of the French-Italian border and 18 kilometers east of Nice. In Monaco, the Cats witnessed the colorful Changing of the Guard at the infamous Prince’s Palace (Palais Princier) which takes place each day at 11:55 a.m. Perched on a hill overlooking the Principality, this is the official residence of the ruling Grimaldi family. The Cats also visited the Cathedral of Saint-Nicolas where Princess Grace and Princes of the Grimaldi family are buried in the crypt.
Kentucky’s first game in its 11-day tour will take place on Wednesday, May 9 at 8 p.m. versus Nice University Club. The Cats will then move on to Lyon, France where they are scheduled for one game on Thursday, May 10 at 8:15 p.m. versus Lyon ALGM.
