The University of Kentucky men’s tennis program has announced the hiring of Greg Van Emburgh as its new assistant coach.

Van Emburgh is a former Wildcat letterman (1986-88) who earned All-America status three times at UK. In 1987, he made a successful run in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles event and the semifinals in doubles with partner Rich Benson.

Following his career in the Bluegrass, Van Emburgh enjoyed a successful career on the professional circuit, reaching the Wimbeldon doubles semifinals in 1991. During his career, Van Emburgh notched seven ATP titles, and earned wins over Boris Becker and Ivan Lendel.

“We expect Greg to add a lot to our program,” Coach Dennis Emery said. “He brings a wealth of big match-play experience with his coaching.”

Van Emburgh, who will assume his new position on July 1, replaces Associate Head Coach Ford Lankford, who left to pursue other coaching opportunities.
