University of Kentucky senior Jon Hooker signed a free-agent baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox organization on Friday, June 8, 2001. Hooker, a right-handed relief pitcher, will leave on Monday, June 11, for mini-camp in Tucson, Arizona. He will begin his minor league career with the Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League.
In four years as a Wildcat, Hooker registered a 5-5 record and earned 11 saves. This past season, the London, Ky., native posted a team-best 3.23 ERA in 39 innings of work while striking out 48 batters.
