AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Kentucky track and field team gave a strong finish on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Texas Relaysat the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field in Austin, Texas. Strong performances by all the Wildcats gave UK five top-tenfinishes.

On the women’s side, sophomore Simidele Adeagbo topped her season best triple jump mark of 41-06.00 with an NCAAprovisional qualifying mark of 42-03.50 and a seventh place finish, while freshman Caitlin Phillips finished sixteenth in the 1,500 Meterswith a time of 4:47.87.

In the men’s high jump competition, sophomore Matthew Smothermon finished in fifth place with a mark of 6-09.00, which toppedhis season best of 6-08.00. Senior Andrew VanderWagen also had a mark of 6-09.00 and a sixth place finish in the event.

Jeff Chakouian also gave a new season best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put event with a mark of 60-02.50in a sixth place finish. Also finishing sixth was the 4×1,500 meter relay team of sophomores Hunter Spencer, John Morgan, ThomasMorgan, and freshman Justin Amason with a time of 15:46.70 in today’s event.

The Track Cats next travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Sea Rays Relays on April 12-14, 2001.
