The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will look to extend its Southeastern Conference win streak thisweekend as it travels to Athens, Ga., on Friday, April 6, to take on No. 4 Georgia before heading to Nashville,Tenn., on Sunday, April 8, to face No. 39 Vanderbilt.
The Cats (9-12, 2-5 SEC) are coming off of a 4-3 win over No. 23 Mississippi State on Tuesday, April 3. UKrebounded after losing the doubles point to take singles victories at No. 1, 2, 3 and 4. Junior Johan Grunditzextended his unbeaten streak in the SEC and is now 6-0 in conference play. The Hallstahammar, Sweden,native is 19-9 on the season.
“This weekend will be important for us as far as post-season seeding is concerned,” Coach Dennis Emery said.”We look to put in strong performances against both Georgia and Vanderbilt to help our positioning going intothe SEC Championships.”
The Cats will only have three regular-season matches remaining on the schedule when they return home onSunday. UK will play host to a double-header on Friday, April 13, as the Cats take on Morehead State at 2p.m., and Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 15, Kentucky will bid farewell to its lone senior,Edo Bawono, as the Cats host No. 37 Arkansas on Senior Day at 12 p.m.
