The University of Kentucky track and field squads will head to Athens, Ga., for a Southeastern Conference five-way meet onSaturday, March 31. Teams scheduled to join UK are host Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas and South Carolina.

The Cats return to action after taking a weekend off following their return from the Hurricane Invitational at the University ofMiami in Florida. UK had 12 top-five finishes to start the outdoor season and is looking to improve upon it superb performancesduring the indoor season, which included its first individual SEC champion since 1996 in freshman Jeff Chakouian and sixAll-Americans (sophomores Chad Johnson, Hunter Spencer, Thomas Morgan and Simidele Adeagbo, freshman James Doaty, andChakouian).

This will be no easy meet for UK, however, as the Cats will compete against some of the nation’s best athletes. On the men’sside, Arkansas is ranked third in the latest Trackwire Online poll, while Auburn is fifth, Georgia is 12th, and USC is 14th. In thewomen’s poll, Arkansas is also third, the Gamecocks are fourth, UGA is 21st and Auburn is 22nd.Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m. on the Forrest “Spec” Towns Track with the men’s hammer throw and concludes with the men’s1,600-meter relay at 4:44 p.m.
