The University of Kentucky baseball team will travel to Baton Rouge this weekend for a crucial Southeastern Conference series withthe defending NCAA Champion and 7th-ranked LSU Tigers starting Friday at 7:05 p.m., CST, at Alex Box Stadium.
UK enters the three-game series with an overall record of 12-15, 2-7 in SEC play. After beginning the conference season by takingtwo of three games at #19 Ole Miss, the Cats have dropped six SEC contests.
The Cats are coming off an impressive outing in a 13-4 win at Xavier. The UK offense pounded out a season-high 22 hits en route toending a four-game losing streak. Catcher Caleb Brock has been the Cats hottest hitter, going 3-for-4 against the Musketeers andraising his season batting average to a team-high .337.
LSU is currently alone in second-place in the SEC Western Division standings with an overall record of 19-7-1, 6-3 in SEC action.The Tigers, who were the preseason favorite to win the conference, trail the Ole Miss Rebels by one game in the SEC West. MikeFontenot, 2000 National Freshman of the Year, leads the LSU attack with a .420 batting average.
Scott Wade (2-4, 2.39 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cats on Friday. Rob Corrado (4-2, 5.45 ERA) will take the mound forUK on Saturday. UKs starter for Sunday has yet to be determined.
Saturdays game will begin at 4 p.m., CST, and Sundays series-finale will get underway at 1:07 p.m., CST.
LSU holds a 27-12 advantage in the all-time series with UK. The Tigers took two of three from the Cats in Lexington last May.
