University of Kentucky mens swimmer David Tweedie was named Academic All-District IV, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced. Tweedie was named to the first team, joining a UK soccer player, along with another soccer player who made it onto the second team. Kentucky tied for the most selections with three on the mens fall/winter at-large team.
Tweedie, a senior swimmer with a major in mechanical engineering, was named Academic All-Southeastern Conference the last two years. Earlier in the season, the College Swim Coaches Association of America ranked him No. 11 nationally for academics.
At the recent NCAA mens Swimming and Diving Championship meet, Tweedie placed 30th in the 500 freestyle, 34th in the 200 freestyle, and was a member of the 13th- placing 800 freestyle relay and 15th-place winning 400 freestyle relay.
At the SEC Championship meet, he was a member of the school record-breaking, silver medal-winning 400 freestyle relay team that provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet. The Wildcat co-captain is in the top five on UKs all-time list in three events.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and have a GPA of 3.20 or higher.
