CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 21, 2001) — Five Wildcat pitchers scattered six hits and struck out 11 batters in leading the University of Kentucky baseball team past Austin Peay State University, 5-2, Wednesday, March 21, at Raymond Hand Park.

Mark Michael, Rob Corrado, Cory Hahn and Joseph Blanton each pitched twoinnings before handing the game over to closer Jon Hooker, who picked uphis fourth save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth.

UK (11-11) pounded out 12 hits against the Govs, and in the process, endedits three-game losing streak. Vince Harrison led the Cats offensive attack,going 3-for-5 on the night, including his fourth home run of the year.

The Wildcats jumped on APSU starter Mike Reel in the first, scoring tworuns on four hits, one coming on Harrison’s round-tripper.

APSU (15-7) cut UK’s lead in half in the bottom of the third inning whenA.J. Ellis singled home D.W. Blakeman, making the score 2-1.

The Govs evened the score in the sixth on a solo home run by Michael Johnson.

Reel was lifted after seven strong innings, and the Cats’ bats took fulladvantage of the APSU bullpen. Wildcat center fielder Beau Moore homered tolead off the top of the eighth. Vince Harrison and Seth Morris followedwith singles, putting UK in position to blow the game open. With two outsand the bases loaded, Wildcat pinch-hitter Morgan Embry singled through theright side of the infield, driving home two runners, and giving UK a 5-2lead that it would not relinquish.

Joseph Blanton picked up the save for UK, his first of the season. FrankKunich absorbed the loss for APSU. Hooker rung up his fourth save of theseason with his work in the ninth.

UK will return to action on Friday when it hosts a three-game series withSoutheastern Conference rival Tennessee. Game time is schedules for 6 p.m.,and will be televised on College Sports Southeast.
