FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Jeff Chakouian andsophomore Simidele Adeagbo earned the firstAll-America honors of their collegiate careers at theNCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday,March 10, at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on thecampus of the University of Arkansas.

Chakouian, a native of Seekonk, Mass., claimed thirdplace in the men’s shot put with a heave of 63-07.50to finish first among American competitors for hisfirst All-America honor. Chakouian came to the Catswith much promise and delivered early on with aschool-record and NCAA qualifying throw in his firstattempt as a Wildcat. He went on to claim UK’s firstSoutheastern Conference individual title since 1996two weeks ago at the conference indoor meet and nowadds a strong NCAA finish to propel him into theoutdoor season.

Adeagbo, a Louisville, Ky., native, used the 2001indoor season to get progressively better and claimedthird at the SEC meet with a school-record leap. Thenon Saturday, she eclipsed that mark by just over afoot with another school-record leap of 43-04.50 tofinish fourth for her first career All-America honor.

Add to these performances the seventh place finish bythe men’s distance medley relay team of freshman JamesDoaty and sophomores Chad Johnson, Hunter Spencer andThomas Morgan, and the UK track program has had one ofits strongest overall showings at an NCAA meet in thepast few years.

The Wildcats will now take to the road for the entireoutdoor season looking to improve on the indoor seasonand advance more athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Trackand Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on May30-June 2. They will begin this trek on Saturday,March 17, at the Hurricane Classic at the Universityof Miami.
