GymKats Say Goodbye to Two Seniors

With a quad meet to close out the 2001 home schedule, the University of Kentucky gymnastics team will say goodbye toseniors Beth Coleman and Susan Buffington on Friday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. Competing along with UK will beBowling Green, Central Michigan and Pittsburgh.
The GymKats (3-8, 0-5 Southeastern Conference) will pay tribute to the seniors in their last appearance before a home crowd.Coleman, a Deerfield, Ill., native has competed for UK for four seasons fighting through a single injury, while Buffington has been astudent manager for three years after a fourth surgery on her knee forced her out of competition her freshman season.
“Beth has seen adversity,” assistant coach Mo Muhammad said, “and despite that has shown that she can be a motivator and ateam leader in the good times and the bad. I cant say enough about Bûff. What would we do without her? A day without her islike a day without sunshine.”
UK traveled to Gainesville last week for a quad meet with No. 10 Florida, No. 8 Iowa State and Ball State scoring thesixth-highest team total in school history on floor but were unable to overcome three falls on beam in losing to UF and ISU. TheGymKats scored a 193.700 to gain the narrow win over Ball State and slipped to No. 29 in the nation and No. 6 in the Centralregion with a team regional qualifying score (RQS) of 194.295.
UK will also be taking on two regional opponents in the quad meet, BGSU and CMU. The Falcons of BG arrive in Lexingtonsporting a record of 8-8 overall, 3-3 in the Mid-American Conference, and carry a team average of 193.793 with an RQS of194.235. CMU comes to the Bluegrass 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference, but are 6-1 since a loss to EasternMichigan and have an RQS of 193.580.
In addition, the Panthers of Pitt will invade Memorial Coliseum in their last road meet of the regular season with a 2-7 record and a190.895 RQS in the Northeast Region as they come off a loss at home to Michigan State, 192.150-195.575.
