(Feb. 28, 2001) — Kentucky’s Selia “SeSe” Helm was named to the Southeastern Conference team All-Freshman team announced by the league office on Wednesday, February 28. The All-Freshman Team was voted on by the 12 league coaches.

Helm, a native of Bowling Green, Ky., is one of only two freshmen to rank in the top-20 in scoring in the SEC, boasting an average of 12.5 points per game. The 6-4 center also leads the league in free throw percentage, shooting an impressive 87.1 percent. She is UK’s second leading scorer and third leading rebounder with 4.7 rpg.

“This award is very deserving for SeSe,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “With her size and athleticism she is unmatched in this conference.”

Helm is only the fourth Wildcat in school history to be named to the all-rookie team, joining Kristi Cushenberry (1989), Jocelyn Mills (1990) and Laura Meadows (1998).

The SEC Tournament begins Thursday, March 1 at The Pyramid with the Cats taking on the 16th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers at 7 p.m. ET. College Sports Southeast will televise the game.
