TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving teams continued their performance at the Southeastern Conference Championship meet today.

In the men’s finals of the 200 freestyle, senior Macon White captured second place, missing the top spot by a mere five-tenths of a second.

Three records fell in the preliminaries this morning as Shaun Zitani, Roger Watkins, and Kelli Stein all set new marks in the school record book. Zitani broke his own school record in the 100 butterfly, and Watkins too lowered his own school record in the 100 breaststroke. Stein broke a three-year old record in the 100 breaststroke to round out the broken records.

Another UK record fell in the finals as the men’s 400 medley relay, comprised of Fernando Barros, Watkins, Zitani, and White, finished over three seconds under the seven-year old record.

In the finals, Eddie Clement scored some points for the Wildcats, placing 16th in the 400 individual medley. On the women’s side in the 400 individual medley, Melissa Olson took sixth place in the race.

Zitani finished fifth in the 100 butterfly, while David Tweedie placed 11th in the 200 freestyle. Carolyn Rader took 12th in the 200 freestyle for the women.

In the 100 breaststroke, both Watkins and Stein finished eighth in the race, while Shawna Sechrist took 12th in the 100 backstroke.
