The University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will continue dual-match play onSaturday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. when it plays host to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the HilaryJ. Boone Tennis Complex.
The Wildcats (5-3, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) are coming off of a tough loss toOhio State in Wednesday’s home opener. UK struggled at doubles, grabbing only one winand losing the doubles point before sweeping the No. 1-3 positions in singles. OSU evenedthings up with wins at No. 4 and No. 5, leaving the match resting on the No. 6 singles matchbetween UK’s Karim Benmansour and OSU’s Bob Wellstein. Benmansour grabbed the firstset in commanding form, 6-1, before Wellstein rallied to take the second 6-3. After a seriousof questioned calls in the third set, Benmansour was unable to get regain his composureand dropped the set 6-4, giving OSU the 4-3 victory. The Cats will continue their home stand on Sunday, Feb. 18 as they open SEC play againstthe Alabama Crimson Tide at 2 p.m.
