Women's Tennis

(Feb. 14, 2001) — Carolina Mayorga, a junior on the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team, was honored as the PNC Bank Student-Athlete of the Week on February 13. PNC Bank sponsors the weekly award, which recognizes a UK Student-Athlete who has achieved in both athletics and the classroom.

Mayorga is a double major in French and international economics and was named to the dean’s list in the fall of 1999 and thefall of 2000. The Bogota, Colombia native has been a member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for twoconsecutive years and is a member of the Society of Character. Last spring, Mayorga was honored with the Athur Ashe Jr. SportsScholar Award.

On the tennis court, Mayorga plays No. 1 singles and doubles for the Wildcats. She teams with sophomore Sarah Witten toform the nation’s 13th-ranked doubles pair. Last weekend, she defeated 58th-ranked Chrissie Nolan of Michigan instraight sets 6-3, 6-3. The women’s tennis team will be back in action on Feb. 20, when they play host to thePurdue Boilermakers at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on the UK campus.
