FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Jan. 27, 2001) – The University of Kentucky track team finished strong on the final day of the Razorback Invitational on Saturday, January 27, at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Freshman James Doaty led the way for the Cats as he finished the men’s seeded 800-meter run in fourth place with apersonal-best time of 1:50.75. A tough group of sophomores were not far behind as Chad Johnson finished sixth in 1:51.82, HunterSpencer claimed eighth place in 1:52.13 and Jack Morgan crossed the finish line in 1:52.92 for ninth. In the unseeded 800, freshmanPaul Ciurlys just missed a personal best of his own as he won the race in a time of 1:51.46.
Also for the men, sophomore Thomas Morgan finished the seeded 3,000 meters in a time of 8:13.59 to claim seventh place. Histime was just three seconds shy of the NCAA provisional-qualifying mark.
Freshman Caity Phillips ran her second-best mile of the season in the women’s seeded race as she captured seventh place witha time of 5:00.46.
The Cats return to action in two weeks when they travel all the way to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic to get one finaltune-up before hosting the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25.
