Rookledge.JPG The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team shut out both the Louisville Cardinals and the Cincinnati Bearcats 7-0 onFriday, Jan. 26, as it opened up its dual match season in impressive fashion.

Mayorga.JPG The Wildcats (2-0) breezed through both matches, failing to surrender a set in either performance. In the closest contest of theday, UK’s Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten, the nation’s 10th-ranked doubles team, defeated 27th-ranked LyndseyMolony and Kara Molony of Cincinnati, 9-8.

“This team played with a lot of intelligence today,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “It was clear to see thatwe were making the right decisions. The team has been practicing well and really working hard. It showedtoday on the court. There wasn’t one point played today where we didn’t give a 100 percent effort. And, mostimportantly, they had fun.”

The Cats will now travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to go head-to-head with the North Carolina Tarheels onSunday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m.
