The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Cincinnati to the Laurence Pool to take on the Bearcats on Friday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m., to end a four-meet road swing.
The 23rd-ranked men’s team (4-1) is coming off a win over LSU and a nine-point defeat by fourth-ranked Texas A&M. Senior Macon White earned Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors for his performance against the Tigers and Aggies. Nationally, eight Kentucky times rank in the top 25.
In the SEC, Shaun Zitani ranks in the top four in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 butterfly. In addition to Zitani’s top-10 times, David Tweedie has three top-10 times, while White and Roger Watkins have two top-10 times apiece. In the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, Kentucky is No. 2 only to Tennessee and is in the top six in the other relays.
Diver Clayton Moss is second on the one-meter (dual) and three-meter (championship) in the SEC and ranks in the top five in the three-meter (dual) and platform. Aaron Kirkpatrick is third on the three-meter (championship) and in the top five on the one-meter (dual) and platform.
The 24th-ranked women’s team (5-2) defeated Arkansas and South Carolina in a tri-meet last weekend as the women won nine events. The women have three national top-25 times. In the SEC, Jaime Siegele has the highest Kentucky ranking, at third in the 50 freestyle. Siegele adds a No. 5 ranking in the 100 freestyle, while Melissa Olson is ranked fifth in the 200 backstroke. Olson is ranked seventh in the 200 individual medley and Kelli Stein is in the top seven in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Debra Hinsley makes an appearance at No. 9 in the 100 butterfly.
Diver Carrie Knoeber ranks in the top four in the SEC on the three-meter (championship) and is in the top 10 on the platform. Kelli Frost is in the top 10 on the one-meter (dual) and three-meter (championship).
Cincinnati’s men’s and women’s teams fell to Ball State in their last meet after defeating Miami (Ohio) the night before. The Kentucky meet will be Senior Day for the Bearcats.
Scott Davison and Kevin Dupuis set pool records at Ball State, Davison’s in the 1,000 freestyle and Dupuis’ in the 400 individual medley. Maria Oberg placed first in the 200 and 500 freestyles against Miami and took the 100 and 1,000 freestyles against Ball State to lead the Bearcats.
