(Jan. 18, 2001) — The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will travel to Athens, Ga., to compete in the Georgia Invitational this weekend, January 19-22.

The event marks the final individual tournament of the 2000-01 season for the Tennis Cats who will begin their dual match season in late January.

The tournament will include many of the nation’s top-ranked players from perennial collegiate powers. Along with defending national champion Georgia, other schools participating include LSU, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Kansas State.

“We came back from the semester break in great shape and really playing well,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “The team has a great mindset, and I can tell they are ready to compete at an extremely high level. We are entering this season with a greater focus and playing with more emotion than ever before.”

Opening-round singles and doubles competition will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility.
