Miami, Fla..- Freshman Kristin Connolly notched a career-high 17 points and junior forward LaTonya McDole recorded her secondseason and seventh career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Kentucky women’s basketball team 74-59 loss tothe Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday.

The Cats (3-6), coming off a 60-58 win over Florida International on Sunday, struggled against the Canes’ 1-3-1 defense most ofthe night, turning the ball over a season-high 28 times. UK only shot 39.7 percent from the floor compared to Miami’s 51.7 percent.

“We are not freshman anymore and we have to grow up sometime. I am really disappointed with our defensive effort,” UK CoachMattox said. “We will get that straightened out and get ready to play on Friday.”

Sophomore guard Rita Adams charted 10 points, seven defensive rebounds and four assists and McDole recorded a career-tying sixsteals. Freshman center SeSe Helm did not see action for the third straight game with a partial MCL tear in her left knee. She isexpected to return for Friday’s game with Cincinnati.

Four Hurricanes scored in double digits led by sophomore forward Alicia Hartlaub’s 17 points. Freshman center ChaniviaBroussard followed with 16 points.

Despite trailing 39-30 at the half, the Cats came out on fire in the second half going on a 7-0 to tie the game at 41 with 16 minutesremaining. The Canes (4-3) answered with a 7-0 run of their own to pull ahead 51-43 with 11:07 to go and never looked back.

Kentucky leads the all-time series 4-1 versus Miami and are 24-16 against teams from the Sunshine State.

The Cats will meet Cincinnati on Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. in Louisville’s Freedom Hall. The UK men’s team versus Indiana will follow atapproximately 8 p.m. One ticket allows entrance to both games.
