(Dec. 18, 2000) — University of Kentucky men’s soccer player Ilkka Jantti was named an honorable-mention All-American by collegesoccer.com, the site announced on December 15. Earlier this week, he was named to the All-Great Lakes Region First Team.
“This is another great honor for Ilkka,” Coach Ian Collins said. “His work ethic and tireless devotion to the game has put him in this position. He has been one of the keys to our team, and he is very deserving.”
From his defensive position in 2000, the junior from Lahti, Finland, tied for second on the team in points with eight, including three goals. He scored the game-winning goal against IUPUI and contributed goals in losses to UC-Santa Barbara and eventual men’s College Cup Final Four participant Southern Methodist. One of his two assists came on the Cats’ first goal of the season, while his second came on the game-winning goal against Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo.
Earlier this season, Jantti also was named first team All-MAC and was selected to both the Southeastern Conference and MAC Academic Honor Rolls.
