The Kentucky Wildcats officially open their 25th season of play in Rupp Arena when Penn State visits on Nov. 25. On November 15, Director of Athletics Larry Ivy has unveiled the anniversary logo to be used in the arena and on various merchandise throughout theseason.
The arena, named after Kentucky’s Hall of Fame coach, Adolph Rupp, was the largest built for basketball facility in the nationwhen it opened for the 1976-77 season. Since then, the building has become synonymous with championship-caliber basketball.UK’s record in the arena is 317-35 (90.1%), averaging 13.2 wins per season and just 1.5 losses annually.
Three national championship squads at Kentucky have called Rupp Arena home in the past 24 seasons. Three others haveadvanced to the Final Four while eight teams have compiled perfect home records in the building.
As the 2001 Wildcats begin play, they have won 20 consecutive games at Rupp Arena, which is tied for the nation’s sixthlongest home win streak.
