The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team was defeated by Florida, 2-1, Friday, Nov. 3, at the Southeastern Conference tournament. Florida leads the series 8-0.

Kentucky (15-6, 6-3 SEC) and Florida (15-7) battled to a scoreless first half. The Wildcats held Florida to only five shots in the first half.

Kentucky’s defenders were relentless in their attack keeping Florida’s offense from controlling the game. UK defender Emily Oetjen opened scoring up in the 48th minute with a header from two yards out off Annie Gage’s corner kick. Following the goal, Kentucky worked hard to keep its lead and keep the Gators from scoring.

Florida evened the score in the 60th minute as Abby Wambach scored, unassisted, off a deflection. While Wambach scored all four Gator goals against Arkansas, the Wildcats were able to hold her to just one goal. The game-winner was scored by Gator Andi Sellers off an unassisted free kick.

The NCAA will announce the tournament bids on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 10 p.m.
