The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team shutout the LSU Tigers, 2-0, in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament Thursday, Nov. 2, in Athens, Ga., at the Georgia Women’s Soccer Stadium. Kentucky improves to 6-0 in the series.

Kentucky (15-5, 6-3 SEC) and LSU (15-6) nearly went scoreless in the first half though the Wildcats had a few chances at goals. The first goal, and game-winner, came in the 32nd minute as Elizabeth Ramsey converted a penalty kick. It was the second team All-SEC player’s ninth goal of the season and third game-winning goal.

Jaime Dellbringge scored in the 37th minute, capping off the victory. She was assisted by first team All-SEC pick Keri Boyce. The shutout was UK goalkeeper Beth Wells’ sixth of the season. The strong Kentucky defense held the Tigers to only three shots in the game.

Kentucky will next face archrival Florida in an effort to advance to the championship game of the tournament. The Cats will match up against the Gators Friday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. at the Georgia Women’s Soccer Stadium.

Florida defeated Arkansas, 4-1, to move into the semifinals. Abby Wambach scored all four of the Gators’ goals in the game. Florida is undefeated in the series with the Wildcats, capturing all seven games between the teams.
