Several members of the University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will travel to Athens, Ga., this weekend, Nov. 2-5, to participate in the Region III Championships. The tournament, which is hosted by Georgia, features a 96-player singles draw and a 48-team doubles draw and will be playedat the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Seeing action for the Cats will be senior Edo Bawono, junior Gustav Pousette and junior Reven Stephens. Bawono, who is seeded in the tournament due to his impressive 13-2 fall record, has a first-round bye and will face the winner of Thursday morning’s match betweenJacksonville’s Bram Tucker and LSU’s John Pugh.

Pousette will see action early, when he takes on Florida’s Ross Greenstein on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Stephens is listed as an alternate in the tournament. Bawono and Stephens should see action in the doubles draw, but those matchups were not available.

“This tournament showcases the best talent that our region has to offer,” Associate Head Coach Ford Lankford said. “For our team, the experience that this weekend offers is invaluable. We’re looking to have a good showing.”

The tournament features players from 33 southeastern schools, including 10 Southeastern Conference teams. Action continues through Sunday.
