The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team battled back from earlier losses in the Southeastern Conference Fall Tournament inStone Mountain, Ga., to turn some heads on Saturday, Oct. 21. The Wildcats, who return every member of last year’s squad,bounced back to claim wins in the consolation bracket of the “A” flight of the tournament.

Sophomore Amy Trefethen rolled 80th-ranked Anne Nguyen of Georgia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to thenext round. Nguyen was an All-SEC performer last season. On Saturday, Trefethen turned the tables onNguyen who defeated her last season in Lexington.

Wildcat junior Lauren Rookledge also moved into the later rounds with her triumph over LSU’s LaurenHaddix. Rookledge and Haddix battled in the back-and-forth match for three sets before Rookledge pulled outan impressive third set to get the 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 victory.

Rookledge also teamed up with sophomore Jill Buckley to win the “A” flight consolation bracket in doublescompetition. Rookledge and Buckley breezed through Saturday’s competition. The duo first ousted Alabama’sBecca Baum and Dominique Glinzer 8-2, before advancing to defeat Liz Souerborn and Carolina Maurer ofAuburn in the final match 8-2.

UK will be back in action 8 a.m. on Sunday when they continue singles play.
