The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team suffered a hard day on the courts in the topflight of the Southeastern Conference Fall Tournament in Stone Mountain, Ga., on Friday, Oct. 20.

Sophomore Amy Trefethen entered her second round matchup with Alabama’s EmmanuelBernard cold, after first round opponent Allison Ojeda from Tennessee withdrew due to illness,creating a walkover situation. Trefethen fought hard in her first set with Bernard, losing in thetiebreaker 7-6(5) before dropping the second set 6-3. Trefethen will continue on Saturday when shebegins play in the singles consolation bracket.

Sophomore Jill Buckley had a hard match with sixth-seed Tina Hojnik from Georgia, falling 6-4,6-1 in straight sets. Buckley went on to defeat LSU’s Tammy Botts in the first round of theconsolation bracket, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. She continues play in the consolation singles bracket onSaturday.

Junior Lauren Rookledge had an uncharacteristically bad day on the court, falling to SouthCarolina’s Katy Boyanovich, 6-2, 7-6(7) in first round action of the A flight. Rookledge then facedArkansas’s Ann Roslund in the consolation bracket, but couldn’t find her rhythm and dropped thematch, 6-1, 6-2.

The doubles team of Buckley and Rookledge fell to Auburn’s Andrea Piskey and CarolinaRamirez, 8-4, and moves ont o play in the doubles consolation bracket on Saturday. Trefethenpaired with Mississippi State’s Anca Vasiloaca to defeat the LSU duo of Kelly Craycraft and AmyMcIlhaney, 8-5. They will continue play tomorrow.
