The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will face the LSU Tigers on Friday, Oct. 20, at the UK Soccer Complex at 5:30 pm., part of a doubleheader. The nightcap will be the men’s soccer team battling Bowling Green, beginning at 8 p.m.
The series against LSU has the Wildcats undefeated in the series, 4-0, and Kentucky defeated the Tigers 6-1 in last year’s meeting.
“LSU is having a great season and [coach] George Fotopoulos has done a lot for the team,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “We are expecting a difficult game. This will be another SEC battle.”
Kentucky (11-4, 4-3 SEC) has fallen on hard times in the last few matches, winning one of four. They hope to rebound against LSU and Sunday’s opponent Arkansas to finish out Southeastern Conference competition on a high note.
The Cats continue to play aggressive offense, having taken 302 shots so far this season. Keri Boyce leads the team in shots with 66 and goals (10). Elizabeth Ramsey, who has 10 assists this season, needs just one more assist to tie Annie Gage’s career record of 22. Gage could up this number though, if she too notches an assist in the game. In conference matches only, Kentucky leads the pack in points (68), assists (28), and shots (124).
LSU (13-4, 4-3 SEC) is on a three-game win streak, shutting out two of its last three opponents. Kara Dean is the team leader with 14 goals, five of which were game-winners, and 30 points. Ashley Mitnick is the Tigers’ assist leader with eight.
LSU goalkeepers Bonnie Otillo and Bryna Warnock both have goals against averages of less than one. Otillo’s is 0.91, while Warnock’s is 0.71.
