The University of Kentucky womens tennis doubles team of Carolina Mayorga andSarah Witten were defeated by the No. 1-ranked pair of Paolo Palencia and IpekSenoplu of Pepperdine in the NCAA All-American Tournament in Los Angeles onThursday, Oct. 19.

Mayorga and Witten, the No. 11 doubles team in the nation, had received anautomatic bid into the main draw of the tournament, which includes the final 16 teams.The pair fell to Palencia and Senoplu in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

“Carolina and Sarah played at a very high level today,” assistant coach Kathy Herringsaid. “I hope we can learn to continue to play at that level every match.”

The pair now moves on to the consolation bracket and will play on Friday, Oct. 20;however, their opponent had not been determined at press time. Action will take placeat the Riveria Country Club in Los Angeles.

Womens Tennis to Begin Play at SEC Fall Tournament

A trio of University of Kentucky womens tennis players will take the court in thetop flight at the Southeastern Conference Fall Tournament on Friday, Oct. 20, in StoneMountain, Ga.

Sophomores Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley will each face off againstnationally-ranked opponents. Trefethen will match up with No. 27 Allison Ojeda ofTennessee, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, while Buckley will play 76th-rankedAmy Hojnik of Georgia. Also seeing action will be junior LaurenRookledge, who will play Katy Boyanovich of South Carolina.

In doubles action, Rookledge and Buckley take on Auburns AndreaPiski and Carolina Ramirez, while Trefethen will pair with Anca Vasiloacaof Mississippi State in the B-flight against the LSU duo of Kelly Craycraftand Amy McIlhaney.

“We definitely have our hands full from the beginning,” head coachMark Guilbeau said. “It will be a great opportunity for us to get some goodmatches under our belts.”

Each singles player and doubles pair will play two matches on Friday.
