Cats Benefiting From New Offense
(Oct. 19, 2000) — The Kentucky Wildcats volleyball team will travel to Auburn on Friday, October 20, for a match-up with the Tigers at 8:00 p.m. at the Student Activities Center.
UK (4-14, 2-5 SEC) will showcase its recently implemented offensive scheme against the Tigers. Since the installation of the new offense, the team’s execution has improved and more options have been created for UK’s middle blockers.
“This new offense puts different people in different slots,” said coach Jona Braden. “It gives us a change and allows us to grow as a team, in addition to forcing the opponent to face more attacks.”
Kristen Batt reaped the benefits of the changed offense, posting career-highs 27 kills and 26 digs last Sunday against Georgia. Megan Weiskircher and Whitney Sample also recorded double-doubles against the Lady Bulldogs.
Weiskircher, UK’s lone remaining senior, continues to lead the Big Blue with 243 kills (3.47 gm.), 157 digs (2.24 gm.) and 62 blocking assists.
Kentucky’s passing and serving must continue to improve if they are to pick up a win on Auburn’s homecourt.
Auburn (11-9, 1-6 SEC) is coming off of a victory Monday against Jacksonville State. Jaunelle Hamilton leads the Tigers with 253 total kills (3.51 gm.) and 170 digs (2.36 gm.).
Friday night’s match will be televised on College Sports Southeast.
