(Oct. 16, 2000) — University of Kentucky Tennis Cat Sarah Witten made good on her bid to become the third member of the UK squad to earn a spot in the qualifying round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association/NCAA All-American Championship on Sunday, October 15.
Witten breezed through the pre-qualifying round without dropping a set in three matches. The Wildcat sophomore clinched a spot in the next round when she defeated Duke’s Prim Sirripipat 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday.
Witten will join senior Brooke Skeen and junior Carolina Mayorga as the third member of the trio of Cats to compete in the qualifying round of the All-American Tournament, which is the second leg of the ITA Grand Slam.
“I am really excited for Sarah,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “It’s great to win three matches and move into the qualifying round. This is a great experience for her to have.”
Match play in the qualifying round will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
