“The most moving experience was watching the athletes as they received their gold medal. A lot of those professional athletes are thought of as being hard and tough, but we had the youngest Dream Team ever play. There has been a lot of talk about whether or not we succeeded, but I think we did.”
“I want to send my regards and prayers to Alonzo Mourning because I understand he has a blood problem and I hope he is okay. I hope that he is doing well and getting ready for his professional season.”
On what will stand out in his mind:
“The Vince Carter dunk. Other than that, the final championship game, obviously the culmination of time that was spent because it started last year. It was a big sacrifice, but you savor all those things.”
On Kentucky:
“I am very excited about the development of the players, the individual workouts. Dave Hobbs has done a fantastic job along with Mike Sutton, George Felton, Reggie Hanson, all of whom were running the team while I was gone. I am very happy about what each individual player has accomplished. We did have some problems with Jules Camara, and I do know he has a court date tomorrow and we hope it turns out okay.”
“I got back Monday and was gone right away because last week was the last week of in-home recruiting visits. I was able to get into about five homes of prospects and visit with them some.”
“Overall, this group of young men has been very focused and look like they are in great shape. I was out with them this morning for some conditioning and we have had all of them in for individual workouts today. I have been impressed Jason Parker and right on down the line, with Marquis Estill, guys that I haven’t really had a chance to watch, like Keith Bogans who has lost 20 pounds, and Tayshaun Prince has gained some weight and gotten stronger.”
On talking to the team about his experiences:
“We haven’t really had a chance to sit down and discuss that, but like this morning in stretching, I talked about how Olympians stretch and prepare themselves for practice. As we cross those things, things will come up and I will probably interject my experiences with them then.”
