Women's Soccer

The 10th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated South Carolina, 5-1, on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the UK Soccer Complex. UK improves its series lead to 6-0.

The Wildcats (11-2, 4-1 SEC) started their offensive attack early as defender Emily Oetjen scored in the fourth minute. The goal, Oetjen’s career first, was scored from midfield off assists from Alli Haeussler and Elizabeth Ramsey.

Keri Boyce followed up with two quick goals, the first in the 46th minute and the second in the 48th minute. The first goal came from five yards out with assists from Annie Gage and Elizabeth Ramsey, while the second came as the result of a Susie Ledzianowski pass from 10 yards out.

Erin Witchey found her second collegiate goal in the 77th minute when she put the ball into the upper corner of the net with Oetjen and Boyce assisting.

The final Wildcat goal came in the 83rd minute as Kara McCue shot from five yards out into the lower left corner. Assisting on the goal were Jen Reese and Heather Saas.

UK goalkeeper Beth Wells posted two saves on the day, combining with the defense to hold the Gamecocks to only one goal.

South Carolina (4-10, 0-4 SEC) scored in the 86th minute when Morgan McIntyre lobbed the ball from 20 yards out into an open net.

The Cats will travel to face Georgia on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., at the Georgia Women’s Soccer Stadium.
