Must Win Match for Both Teams

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Oct. 7, 2000) — On Sunday, October 7, Barnhill Arena will be the site of a crucial Southeastern Conference showdown between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Arkansas Razorbacks. The match is a must win for both teams if they are to remain in the hunt for the conference title. The battle is set to get underway at 2:30 p.m. ET.

UA (4-9, 1-3 SEC) is on the verge of losing the SEC Western Division crown, something they have owned since initiating a volleyball program in 1994. The Razorbacks dropped their most recent match Friday to Tennessee in five games.

Despite losing to Tennessee, UA’s offense attack was impressive as four Razorbacks posted more than 20 kills. Libby Windell, Anna Velikanova and Eftila Tanellari recorded career-highs with 27, 23 and 23 kills, respectively. Michelle Coena equaled her career-high with 25.

The Wildcats are also coming off a Friday night loss at LSU. UK (4-11, 2-2 SEC) will look to improve its serving and passing, elements that the team has been struggling with in recent matches.

Freshman Sissy Canfield recorded nine kills and a .421 hitting percentage Friday. Kristen Batt and Megan Weiskircher continued their steady play in SEC contests. Batt tallied seven kills and team-highs 11 digs and three blocks. Weiskircher posted eight kills and nine digs. Whitney Sample narrowly missed her second consecutive double-double with 33 assists and eight digs.

The Cats will have revenge of their minds as they take the court. Last season, UA bounced UK from the SEC Tournament in four games. The overall series is tied 4-4.
