The University of Kentucky women’s golf team returns to action this weekend when it heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. to participate in the 2000 Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational. The event, part of the Rolex Collegiate Tour, will be played at the Finley Golf Course. Other schools competing in the tournament include Duke, Florida, Florida State, Furman, Georgia, Memphis, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, Tulane, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
“We always look forward to playing in tournaments of this caliber so early in the season,” Coach Bettie Lou Evans said. “To be able to face the nation’s toughest and most talented teams so early really helps us prepare for our grueling conference schedule in the spring.”
The Kats are coming off a rough weekend at the Southeastern Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Shootout in Destin, Fla. UK finished in 11th place, while UK junior Towa Okiyama finished in 19th for the Cats with a three-round total of 234.
The tournament tees off with a shotgun start on Friday, Oct. 6 at 9:30 a.m. and continues through Sunday, Oct. 8.
